The life of both me and my partner has taken a step forward in recent weeks. I have been accepted into Brunel University (not my first choice but still really glad to get in somewhere) and Amy has been given a part time job at a local hardware shop with hopefully the chance for more hours.
These don't sound like important developments but they are to us vital in laying foundations for the yellow brick road of our life together, one which I sincerely hope will be a long and happy road full of surprises (hopefully pleasant ones in the main!). Despite some problems Amy has been having involving the job centre and the pay for her work we both think that things are on the up for us as a couple and that 2012 will prove a fruitful year. Watch this space for the next amazing instalment in the saga of Henry John Charles, over and out!

The joys of unpaid work
Although the title of this post sounds like its being sarcastic, it really isn't. This week I started working voluntarily in a computer class for old people at the Adur volunteer centre (where Amy works as a receptionist) and I found it one of the most rewarding things I've ever done! To be able to help people learn something from scratch is a really exciting prospect to me. This week I have been working on the later sessions of a course so those attending have been fairly up to scratch but next week the new intake come in and I will be there right from the beginning!
It sounds a bit pathetic how excited I'm getting but y'know, whatever gets you through the da :)
In short, no wage is not as shitty a wage as you might think!

We're not terrific, but we're competent
Well 4 days after finishing my A levels I can only say that nothing was a disaster, that hopefully will be confirmed on results day (August 17) so perhaps it's more accurate to say that there's nothing I know was a disaster!
Since my final exam I have started watching films during the day and reading more than a couple of pages before going to sleep at night, things I can never remember doing much of in my life up to now. Although boredom has not set in I have been finding myself missing the satisfaction of revising just a teeny weeny bit but can still manage to make the days go fairly quickly (the trick is to watch a film around lunchtime). On the cards for next week is to start looking for a job (more stressful than exams I would imagine) but this week is strictly 'gardening leave' for me, not that I'm going to be doing any gardening, that just means I have no commitments for the week after my exams. On Wednesday I will have officially entered the big wide world when I give all my text books back and officially leave Bhasvic. Happy days?

Slightly ashamed to admit
Today after my c4 exam I began watching Stanley Kubrick's final film 'Eyes Wide Shut'. Despite several people, including my mother, telling me how crap, pointless, disappointing for a Kubrick fan etc it was I was determined to form my own judgement, and I'm very glad I did.
Although I didn't see the film all the way through what I saw I liked very much. All the over the top drama of Nicole Kidman's naval officer speech, the incense swinging, operatic sexual masquerade ball and everything else really just worked for me, in my opinion at least, Kubrick went out in style.

6 down :D
Well, after the Thursday and Friday from hell (though to be honest, not as bad as I imagined them at times!)I am now three quarters of the way through my A2 exams. Soon I will be out in the wide world, settling into degree level education or (maybe more likely) looking for a vocational course to put me on the road to the holy grail of the legal profession.
Its at times like these that I'm most thankful for the constants in my life. There's my family, who are caring and resourceful enough to get me through anything exam results throw at me but must importantly there's Amy. She is the most special person in my life and someone, due to transport, time constraints etc I have been neglecting during this process, she deverves my attention far more than she gets it and I am so looking forward to working on my relationship with all my heart once the burden of exams is lifted (last one next thursday :D). Whatever happens beyond these next couple of months Amy will be totally at the forefront of my life and my thoughts. Well, at least I have the period of blissful ignorance between my exams finishing and the results coming out but Maths and (shudder) another economics to get out of the way first..
Fixtures for the 2011/12 season came out today. Palace are away to Peterborough on August 6 (I think) for their first game, can see that being a 2-0 defeat but got to stay positive! QPR are away to Bolton for their first match in the premier league, it will be interesting to see how they get on in the coming season, I've always had a soft spot for QPR without ever really knowing why.

The charts, then, now, confusing...
Having only been alive eighteen years, I can't say anything from experience but it seems like the gulf between music that gets into the charts and nme type 'alternative' music has been growing. 30ish years ago, acts like Japan, Depeche Mode, and Soft Cell all seemed to get fairly high in the charts yet now bands resembling these are confined to the pages of very trendy, but relatively obscure, magazines.
For example the new album by the Arctic Monkeys (Suck It and See) is filling the pages of NME yet to listen to Capital FM you'd think guitar music didn't exist.
Well, here I am on the eve of my double exam today with a rather unpleasant sounding period of 'isolation' in between! Fairly confident about maths, not quite so confident about politics.

Another rainy day, trapped inside with the train set...
Well half of that Belle and Sebastian line is true, it is another rainy day, after yesterday when you looked out of the window to see it pissing down then turned on the TV to find that the Canadian Grand Prix was being held up becuase of rain. There really is no way of escaping the British weather, even outside Britian!
Unfortunately today I'm not trapped inside with a train set, as much as I'd love to be. I'm trapped inside with revision, then I will have to venture out into the rainy day so I can take my third A2 exam, Political Ideologies, a pretty nasty one. I can remember the traditional conservative justifications for property pretty well so my plan is to try and extrapolate the rest of the exam from that, not exactly fool proof but I can give it a go!
